Greetings Chicagoland and lands beyond its borders!
Allow me to introduce myself: I am Lydia Mackey, an earthling and 2019 graduate of the Band Instrument Repair program at Western Iowa Technical and Community College. For the last 6 years I have been proud to repair woodwinds of all kinds for students and professionals in the Chicagoland area. I’m excited to launch my new project, Galactic Winds, in part to offer quality refurbished student oboes, flutes and clarinets! I’m in the process of building up inventory at the moment and will have instruments for sale beginning in the winter of 2025.
I also offer top quality oboe and English horn repair on instruments of all levels from student to professional. I have played the oboe and English horn for 33 and 29 years respectively, from beginner to advanced college level and I know firsthand the issues that can plague players! At Galactic Winds, we truly believe “A Leaky Oboe is a Lousy Oboe” and strive for the most bottle-tight padding and regulation achievable for the instrument. Tiny issues add up quickly and often, you won’t believe what you’ve been playing through!
